Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, NC- The Edenton Steamers took the second game of a home-and-home series with Wilson Tobs by a score of 6-4 on Wednesday night. Edenton (3-2) swept the two-game set against Wilson (2-5).

Perry DellaValle grabbed his second win for the Steamers. DellaValle (2-0) allowed one run on five hits while walking one and fanning eight in five innings of work. Devan Watts collected his first save of the season, surrendering one run on three hits in the final frame.

Brady Hill took the loss for Wilson. Hill (0-2) last 4.2 innings while giving up four runs on five hits with two walks to one strikeout.

Edenton started the scoring with a run in the first inning. Tony Rosselli opened things up with a leadoff single, moving to second on a Thatcher Coleman walk. After Rosselli stole third, Aaron Aucker grounded into a fielder's choice to score the right fielder, and an error on the shortstop, Cameron Balego, allowed all runners to reach safely.

The Tobs evened things up in the top of the second. Colin Thacker led off the frame with a single, and a one-out double from Spencer Brown put runners on second and third. After DellaValle loaded the bases by hitting Jimmy Latona with a pitch, Matt Eppers knocked in a run with a single to right, tying the game at 1-1.

The Steamers regained their one-run lead in the fourth. Jimbo Pernetti led off with a triple off the tall wall in left field, and Andrew Hinckley's high hopper to second base scored Pernetti in the next at bat to put the Clams up 2-1.

The Teal and Black added a couple of insurance runs in the next inning. Coleman put a runner on with a one-out double, and Richie Cunningham cleared the bases with a two-run shot to right-center two batters later to extend the lead to 4-1.

Wilson refused to go away, plating two runs in the sixth. A double from Andrew Webster and a single from Brown put runners on second and third with one out. Latona loaded the bases after being hit by another pitch, and two two-out walks brought in two Tobs runs to cut Edenton's lead to 4-3.

The Steamers scratched across two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Reliever Rutty Jones airmailed a throw to first in the seventh, allowing Coleman to race around to third. Aucker made Wilson pay for the error with a single to score Coleman in the next at bat. In the eighth, a Stefan Van Horn single and Pernetti double left runners on second and third with no outs. Tyler Ammerman added a sacrifice fly deep to left two batters later to score Van Horn and put Edenton up 6-3.

The Tobs made an effort to tie things up in the final inning, putting runners on second and third with one out. Webster knocked a two-out single to bring in Justin Bellinger for the final run of the night before Watts induced a groundball to short to end the game with a final score of 6-4.

The Edenton Steamers hit the road for eight games in the next seven days, including three doubleheaders, before returning to Historic Hicks field to host the Morehead City Marlins next Wednesday at 7 p.m. For more information, fans can call (252) 482-4080 or visit edentonsteamers.com.
