Marlins Sink SwampDogs' Rally
June 9, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - For the second straight night, the Fayetteville SwampDogs fell behind early. For the second straight night, a late rally was not enough as the SwampDogs fell 13-8 at home to the Morehead City Marlins.
Three unearned runs put starter Nick Yobbi (USC-Aiken) into some uncomfortable spots early before the Marlins chased him from the game in the third with an eight run frame.
The SwampDogs offense hung around and pushed across a pair of runs in the third against Marlins' starter Anthony Morris (St. Thomas Aquinas). But Fayetteville never recovered from the early deficit despite a five run sixth inning and pulling within three runs after seven innings. In what was almost a miraculous comeback, the SwampDogs had the go-ahead run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh with two outs.
Hunter Dolshun (Maryland, Baltimore County) powered the offense with a 3-4 evening driving in a run and scoring twice. Matt Lahn (Lock Haven) added two hits at the plate and two scoreless innings in relief to help the 'Dogs stay within striking distance.
Morris earned the win after five innings of two run ball for the Marlins to improve to 1-0. Yobbi is saddled with the loss and falls to 1-1 on the year.
The two teams finish a home-and-home series in Morehead City Friday night at 7:05pm.
