Staten Island Walks off with a Win over the CT Tigers

Staten Island, NY - The Staten Island Yankees (11-9) defeated the Connecticut Tigers (6-15) by a score of 7-6 Monday night at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. In the ninth inning with the bases loaded and one out 1B Bubba Jones (3-4) hit a walk off single to right field that scored 3B Eric Jagielo (1-3) to give the Yankees a 7-6 win.

On the second consecutive night the Tigers had an eighth inning lead. The Tigers led 5-3 in the home half of the inning before it was thrown away. The Tigers committed four errors in the inning that allowed three runs to score and gave the Yankees a 6-5 lead. The highlight of the inning came on an RBI single from C Raddley Haddad (1-3) that scored Jones to tie the game at 5-5.

As a team the Tigers scored six runs on eight hits and left 10 batters on base. The Tigers went 3-17 with runners in scoring position. 3B Duncan McAlpine (2-5) produced well at the plate tonight. In the third inning with the score tied 1-1 McAlpine hit a two run single that scored 2B Dominic Ficociello (2-5) and DH Raph Rhymes (0-2) to take a 3-1 lead.

The CT Tigers and S.I. Yankees wrap up their three-game series tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. In the series finale, Connecticut RHP Jonathon Crawford (0-1, 2.45) is slated to face off against Staten Island RHP Jairo Heredia (1-1, 2.33).
