Staten Island Yankees News Release
[Staten Island, NY] - The Yankees have been enjoying some offense these past two games. The Baby Bombers have pounded out 32 hits in the last two games, scoring 23 runs. Eric Duncan led all hitters with a 3-for-5 night, scoing once and driving in one, but it was the bunt by Luis Robles that started the Yankee rally. Tied at two in the bottom of the eighth, the catcher, who came in at the top of the fourth inning, bunted the first offering by Chris Osentowski to third base to start things off. After Melky Cabrera struck out trying to bunt Robles over to second, Robles advanced on a failed pickoff attempt. Adam Shorts came in to pinch run for Robles, advancing to third on a ground out by Enrique Cruz and scoring on a double by Hector Zamora. Duncan provided some insurance when he doubled down the left field line to plate Zamora, but was gunned down at third to end the inning. Paul Thorp allowed a leadoff single to start the ninth, but got a strike out, fielder's choice and ground out to end the game, getting his first win of the season. Five Yankees had multi-hit games, led by Duncan's three-hit performance. Cruz scored twice while Horace Lawrence drove in two. Chase Wright got the start for the Yankees, going five innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits, striking out eight but walking seven. He also had two wild pitches in the game, his 11th of the season, setting a new single-season record for a Staten Island Yankee pitcher. The Yankees and IronBirds will continue their three-game set Monday. There is a special game time for 6:05 p.m. A concert by Sugar Ray will follow. Tickets are still available.
