-2009 SAWBUCK SERIES ENDS TONIGHT: The State College Spikes finish up their slate of games against the Williamsport Crosscutters tonight at Historic Bowman Field, bringing the 2009 edition of the SawBuck Series to a conclusion. With their win last night, the Spikes now lead the season series, 6-5, and the all-time series, 24-23. State College last won the SawBuck Series in 2006, when they took 9 of 12 games from Williamsport.

-LAST GAME: Once again, the Spikes took a big lead early in the game and used a solid pitching effort to beat the Crosscutters, 8-1, at Historic Bowman Field last night. State College jumped out to a 5-0 advantage after three innings, and has now outscored opponents 20-6 in the first three innings of the last four games. David Rubinstein went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI. Brock Holt and Evan Chambers each had multi-hit games for the Spikes, as well. The Spikes pitching staff combined to hold the Crosscutters to no hits untl there was one out in the seventh inning. Mike Felix earned the win for the Spikes.

-SPIKES SEND BLACK FOR LAST START: Right-hander Victor Black makes the start for State College tonight, in what will likely be his last appearance for the Spikes in 2009. The Pirates' supplemental first-round draft choice this year, Black is making his seventh start and 13th overall outing, and earned his first career win against the 'Cutters on July 4.

-HERNANDEZ TO THE HILL FOR 'CUTTERS: Williamsport left-hander Nick Hernandez makes his 15th start of the season for the Crosscutters tonight, and his second in a row against the Spikes. Hernandez went five innings on Sunday to beat State College, allowing two runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out seven.

-TRIO OF SPIKES EARN YEAR-END HONORS: In a ceremony prior to Sunday's home finale, three State College Spikes were honored with the team's annual year-end awards. Infielder Brock Holt was named the Spikes' team MVP for the 2009 season, while right-hander Kyle McPherson earned the Spikes Pitcher of the Year award, and outfielder David Rubinstein netted the inagural Leadership Award, presented by the Spikes Booster Club.
