-SPIKES ENTER FINAL 2009 HOME SET: The State College Spikes return home tonight to start a three-game series against their SawBuck Series foes, the Williamsport Crosscutters. The three games will be the last for the Spikes at home in 2009, as State College will not host any games in the month of September. The Spikes and Crosscutters are tied in the season series, 3-3, and in the all-time series, 21-21. Each team has two wins on the road against the other this season.
-LAST NIGHT: The Spikes were swept by the Jamestown Jammers last night in a doubleheader at Russell Diethrick Park. State College dropped game one, 4-2, and took a 2-2 tie into the eleventh inning of game two before Jamestown's Kyle Jensen hit a walk-off homer to give the game to the Jammers. Elevys Gonzalez collected his first two hits as a Spike in the second game, and Brock Holt went 1-for-5 and scored a run in his return to the lineup. Ty Summerlin had a multi-hit game in the first half of the twin bill.
-MAC TAKES HILL FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Kyle McPherson gets the ball for State College tonight. McPherson leads the Spikes with 11 starts, and has made quality starts (six or more innings with three or less earned runs) in eight of his last nine outings. The Creola, AL native leads the Spikes with 48 strikeouts and has walked just nine batters in 62.1 innings.
-BACK TO LEBRON FOR 'CUTTERS: Williamsport right-hander Siulman LeBron made the start on Opening Night against State College, and returns to make his third start of the season in State College and 13th overall. LeBron also has eight quality starts on the year.
-LAST BLAST AT THE BALLPARK: Tonight is the final 4 for $44 Friday of the season, with four Diamond Club sets, four hot dogs and four small sodas available for just $44. Fans will also enjoy a spectacular postgame fireworks show presented by 95.3/3WZ and a plethora of them nights, including Pennsylvania Sports Rivalry Night, Stone Broke College Student Night and Mixed Martial Arts Night. Kids can also run the bases after the game.
