-SPIKES FINISH OFF SEASON TONIGHT: The Spikes play the final game two-game series with the Batavia Muckdogs tonight. Batavia has taken eight of the nine games in the season series against the Spikes, including all four at Dwyer Stadium. The Spikes will try and win their final road game of the year, after winning their final home game of the year in 2008. The last time the Spikes won their final road game of the year was in 2006 at Batavia.
-LAST NIGHT: The Spikes tied a single-game record by committing six errors, and Batavia took advantage in a 10-2 win. It was the second time this year the Spikes have committed six errors, after doing it June 24 against Williamsport. Chris Swauger starred for the Muckdogs, going 2-for-3 with a two-run homer to start the scoring in the second inning and four RBI. David Rubinstein saw his 14-game hitting streak come to an end. Edward Garcia had his first multi-hit game as a Spike, and got the only RBI of the game for the Spikes.
-TONIGHT'S SPIKES STARTER: Right-hander Gabriel Alvarado gets the nod in the season finale for State College. Alvarado came up from the Gulf Coast League for the season's final week. The righty went 4-2 with a 3.04 ERA in 11 starts for the Pirates in Bradenton. Although Alvarado struck out less than half a man an inning, he allowed just a .249 average to hitters. In his first appearance with the Spikes, Alvarado allowed three runs (two earned) in one inning of work against Batavia at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
-TONIGHT'S MUCKDOGS STARTER: Miguel Tapia will get the ball for Batavia in its regular season finale. A right-hander, Tapia will be backed up by right-hander Thomas Eager. Tapia came on in relief of Eager against the Spikes five nights ago at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, allowing just one hit and no runs in three innings. On the year, Tapia's ERA is a full point better at home than on the road, and he allows hitters a .253 average at Dwyer Stadium
-SPOILER ALERT: State College has the chance to spoil Batavia's first division title since 1995 this weekend. The Muckdogs are leading by just percentage points, though they did clinch a postseason berth with their victory last night.
