-SPIKES LOOK TO TAKE SERIES VS. 'CUTTERS: The State College Spikes' six-game homestand finishes up tonight as they face the Williamsport Crosscutters to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in the final game of a three-game series. Williamsport has won five of the eight games between the two teams this season, while State College is 3-2 against the Crosscutters at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Williamsport leads the all-time series, 37-31.
-LAST GAME: Dan Gamache smashed the sixth grand slam in State College Spikes history in the third inning, which proved to be the crowning blow as the Spikes chopped down the Williamsport Crosscutters, 12-1, on Saturday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College came out roaring from the beginning against Crosscutters starter Michael Nesseth, knocking him out of the box in the second inning. Gamache's grand slam made it 11-1 in favor of the Spikes in the third inning, and was his first home run as a professional. Wes Freeman went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI for State College.
-STEVENSON MAKES START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Trent Stevenson gets the ball to start for State College tonight. Stevenson allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out one over five innings in his last start against Jamestown, but took the loss. Stevenson's ERA in the first inning is 14.40, but his ERA the rest of the way is at 3.13. The Pirates' 2009 seventh-round draft pick is making his fifth start at home for the Spikes in 2011.
-GARNER GETS START FOR 'CUTTERS: Right-hander Perci Garner takes the mound tonight for Williamsport in his third start and seventh appearance of the year. Garner was out for the month of July due to injury, but has racked up a 17:5 strikeout-to-walk ratio since his return. Last time out, Garner allowed two runs, one of them earned on two hits and three walks while striking out four batters at Batavia in a loss.
