AUBURN, NY - The Auburn Doubledays swept the State College Spikes in the two-game series at Falcon Park, blanking the Spikes, 3-0, Sunday night.

Spikes' starter, Kyle McPherson, had a stellar performance despite the loss, allowing only one hit in five innings. The right-hander tallied five strikeouts on the night as he sat down the final 13 batters he faced in the outing. McPherson allowed only two baserunners, both of which came in the first inning.

The game remained scoreless through the fifth inning Sunday night with the Doubledays (36-33) taking the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Brian Van Kirk tripled to center field, scoring Bryan Kervin and Christopher Hopkins to give Auburn a two-run lead. The Doubledays added a run to their lead in the seventh inning when Chris House scored on a passed ball by Spikes' catcher Josue Peley.

Ramon Aguero (1-9) took the loss for the Spikes (16-52) after pitching three innings of relief for State College. Aguero allowed three runs on four hits while striking out four.

Auburn reliever Jared Potts (1-0) earned the win for the Doubledays in his three-inning outing, allowing only two hits. Matthew Daly, who received the win last night, earned his fifth save of the season.

The Spikes return home tomorrow for a 5:00 p.m. match up against the Batavia Muckdogs at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Righty Brian Leach (1-2) will take the mound for the Spikes.

The club will host a special Labor Day Picnic Palooza on Monday which will open the Picnic Pavilion at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park up to individuals wishing to purchase picnic seats. Normally the Picnic Pavilion is limited to groups of 20 or more, but on Labor Day individuals will have the opportunity to enjoy the seats which include a one-hour all-you-can-eat buffet.
