
Stars Split Series in Mexico City 97-89

MEXICO CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars (5-10) the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, dropped the second half of their back-to-back set with the Mexico City Capitanes (9-5), falling 97-89, at Mexico City Arena.
Utah Jazz two-way guard Jason Preston, scored 20 points to lead the way offensively, tallying seven rebounds, and five assists. Utah Jazz two-way center Micah Potter, added 17 points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots in his 30 minutes of action. Utah Jazz assignment player Brice Sensabaugh, scored 17 points to lead the bench unit, knocking down three three-point baskets, and securing five rebounds. Meanwhile, Stars guard Romeo Langford filled the stat line, scoring 15 points, five rebounds, four blocks, two assists, and a steal.
The Stars were held under one-hundred points for just the second time all season. The Stars struggled offensively in the first quarter, scoring just 14 points on .267 shooting. In the second, Mexico City pulled ahead by as many as 15 points. Thanks to a 12-point quarter from Sensabaugh, Salt Lake City managed to trim the deficit to just four points, trailing 49-45 as they entered the break.
The Stars came out of the locker room to take a 7-2 run, regaining their first lead since the start of the game. The back-and-forth battle began, leading to seven lead changes in the frame, as the teams combined for 21 points at the free throw line. However, the Capitanes climbed ahead once again, pushing their lead back to ten to end the third, 79-69. Salt Lake City held Mexico City under .240 shooting from the field in the final 12 minutes, but could not overcome the Capitanes, who captured the final victory, 97-89.
Mexico City guard Iverson Molinar guided the Capitanes offensive attack with his 20 points, three rebounds, and three assists, in 26 minutes as a reserve. Meanwhile, Mexico City center Kenneth Faried added 13 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
The Stars return stateside to host the Santa Cruz Warriors (Golden State Warriors Affiliate) at the Maverik Center on February 7th. The game tips off at 7:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast LIVE on JAZZ+ and ESPN+.
