SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - NBA G League Ignite (1-16) dropped the first of back-to-back games against the Memphis Hustle (7-7), 125-105, on Saturday at the Landers Center in Southaven, Miss.
Tyler Smith led the way for Ignite with a final stat line of 22 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, including 4-of-7 from the three-point line. Smith notched his fifth 20-point game of the season. John Jenkins followed closely behind with 19 points, four rebounds and two steals, while Izan Almansa posted 17 points and four assists. Babacar Sane recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Dink Pate added 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Cameron McGriff paced the Hustle with a game-high 28 points on 10-of-14 shots from the field, along with eight rebounds off the bench. Adonis Arms provided 23 points, four rebounds and three steals, while DeJon Jarreau recorded 20 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds. Davon Reed tallied 18 points, five rebounds and five assists.
In a high-scoring first half, Ignite took the early advantage at the halfway mark (67-62) after shooting 53.1 percent from the field in the half. Ignite's 67 points marked a season-high for points in the first half, led by John Jenkins, who poured in 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, including 2-of-4 from behind the arc. The Hustle's hot shooting continued after starting the third quarter on a 9-0 run to take a four-point lead. The Hustle outscored Ignite in the frame (33-20) to take an eight-point lead heading into the fourth quarter after forcing eight turnovers, resulting in 11 points on the other end. Down 100-89 with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Ignite scored seven consecutive points to cut its deficit to four points. The Hustle quickly weathered the storm en route to closing the game on a 25-9 run to secure the victory, led by Cameron McGriff, who scored 12 points in the frame on 5-of-5 shooting from the field.
