Stars Sign Derek Army to Tryout Agreement

CEDAR PARK, Texas - The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars, announced Monday the team has signed forward Derek Army to a professional tryout agreement.

Army, 24, has appeared in 29 AHL games this season between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Ontario Reign and Portland Pirates. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound forward has nine points (5-4=9) in the AHL this season and 23 points in 29 ECHL games with the Wheeling Nailers.

The North Kingstown, R.I. native competed for four years at Providence College from 2010-2014, then tallied 66 points in 72 games with Wheeling during his first full pro season in 2014-15 (29-37=66).

The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and currently in their seventh season at Cedar Park Center.
