Mississippi Braves News Release
Huntsville's Sam Narron was four outs from a perfect game against the M-Braves Wednesday afternoon as he sat down 23 consecutive batters in the Stars 9-1 drubbing of the Mississippi Braves. While the Stars were pounding out 13 hits, including eight doubles, the M-Braves didn't get a base runner until the eighth inning. Diory Hernandez's triple kept the Stars from making history on Wednesday.
The M-Braves attempt at a third-straight win got off to an ugly start as Huntsville plated four runs in the top of the first. Alcides Escobar singled and Mat Gamel, Matt LaPorta, and Chris Errecart each doubled consecutively to drive in three runs. Freddy Parejo's single to right brought in Errecart with the Stars fourth run of the inning.
Huntsville's lead went up to 5-0 when the eight and nine batters in the Stars lineup hit back-to-back doubles. Ryan Crew doubled to left center and pitcher Sam Narron doubled down the left field line to bring Crew home.
Huntsville blew the game wide open in the sixth. Two doubles, a walk and a single plated three more runs to push the lead to 8-0. The Stars added another run in the eighth to extend the lead to 9-0.
Mississippi got their first two base runners in the eighth when Hernandez tripled and Mark Jurich walked.
The Braves finally got on the board in the bottom of the ninth when Jason Perry hit a sac-fly to center to plate Matt Young.
Dustin Evans gave up eight runs on 10 hits through 5.2 innings and suffered his fourth loss of the season. Nelson Payano gave up a run on three hits through 2.1 innings and Michael Nix tossed a scoreless ninth.
Sam Narron was perfect through 7.2 innings until Hernandez's triple. He finished with a complete game and one out shy of a shutout to earn his third win of the season.
The M-Braves hit the road tomorrow and will be on their way to Mobile, AL to take on the Mobile BayBears in a five-game series. Game one is set for tomorrow night at 7:05 ct. The M-Braves will send lefty Dan Smith to the hill while the BayBears will counter with righty Brooks Brown.
