LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (11-6-1-1) got themselves into an early hole, losing 6-3 to the Tri-City Storm on Saturday night at the Ice Box.

Lleyton Roed notched Tri-City's third shorthanded goal of the season at 6:21, finishing off a 2-on-1 rush after the Stars won the opening face-off of their first power play.

Gavin Brindley scored under three minutes later on the power play, giving the Storm a two-goal lead in the first half of the opening frame.

Thirty-seven seconds after Brindley's goal, Lucas Wahlin broke down the right wing and ripped a shot past the glove hand of Arsenii Sergeev. Wahlin's seventh goal of the year was also his second tally of the weekend. Aidan Thompson secured the lone assist.

Mitchell Miller notched Tri-City's second power-play goal of the period at 14:03, sending the visitors to the first intermission up 3-1. The Stars were outshot 16-6.

Wahlin would cut the Storm's lead to 3-2 at 10:34, deflecting Dalton Norris' shot through Sergeev for his second goal of the game. Jack Mesic picked up his first point as a member of the Stars with the secondary assist.

Lincoln was pushing the pace offensively after Wahlin's goal, but Sergeev turned aside each Stars attack. Jeremy Wilmer provided a back-breaking goal 15:28 into the second period following a sustained offensive zone sequence for the home team.

After 40 minutes, the Stars trailed 4-2, despite outshooting the Storm 14-3 in the middle period.

Christian Fitzgerald increased Tri-City's lead to three with an even-strength goal at 8:01. Norris secured his league-leading seventh power-play goal of the year just over three minutes later.

Thompson fed a perfect pass to Lincoln's captain on a 4-on-3 power play, marking the second time those two connected during the weekend. Luke Johnson collected a secondary assist.

Cole O'Hara put the game away just under 90 seconds following Norris' goal, allowing Tri-City to cruise through the rest of regulation time.

Sergeev stopped 25 shots on goal while Cameron Whitehead allowed six goals on 23 shots before exiting the game with a lower-body injury. Kaidan Mbereko was perfect in an emergency relief appearance lasting 5:07.

Tri-City was 3-for-8 on the power play while the Stars went 1-for-8 on the man advantage.
