Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Mich. - Goaltender Platon Zadorozhnyy earned his second career shutout as the Muskegon Lumberjacks defeated the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders by a final score of 3-to-0 on Sunday, Dec. 5 from Mercy Health Arena in downtown Muskegon. Joey Larson netted a pair of goals for Muskegon with the game-winning goal coming from Jake Braccini as the Lumberjacks swept the RoughRiders, pocketed six points in the standings, and extended their winning streak to four games.
1st Period
Just like last night, both teams could not find the back of the net in the opening period of action. Each side took one penalty in the first 20 minutes, but both power play units came up empty.
Through one period of action, both teams were scoreless heading into the first intermission.
2nd Period
Muskegon was able to get in front off of a goal from Jake Braccini at 4:09 of the middle period. Braccini's sixth goal of the season was assisted by Nick Peluso and Gavin McCarthy to give the Lumberjacks the 1-to-0 lead.
Joey Larson doubled the Lumberjack lead at 6:01 of the second period to make it a 2-to-0 score in favor of Muskegon. Quinn Hutson and Nathan McBrayer picked up assists on Larson's 14th lamplighter of the season.
After 40 minutes of action, the Jacks controlled a 2-to-0 lead over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
3rd Period
Fatigue proved to be apparent as both teams skated in the final 20 minutes of the three-game weekend. However, it was Muskegon scoring the only goal of the period after Joey Larson tucked in an empty-net goal with 30 seconds left in regulation.
Lumberjack goalie Platon Zadorozhnyy was strong in net to stop all 25 shots he faced, picking up his second career shutout.
After 180 minutes of action this weekend and six standings points up for grabs, Muskegon claimed all six and swept the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, defeating them on Sunday by a final score of 3-to-0.
