
Stars Keep Rolling, Top Storm 2-0

Kearney, Neb. - Backed by a shutout from their goaltender Peyton Jones, the Stars rolled to a 2-0 win against Tri-City and improved to 5-1-0 on Friday night at the Viaero Center.
Neither team scored in the first with the Stars getting their best opportunities from forwards Patrick Polino and Will D'Orsi.
Shots were 10-8 for the Storm at the first intermission.
The Stars took the lead midway through the second when forward Dominick Mersch notched his first USHL goal on a deflection at 12:59 of the period. Defenseman Ryan Jones and forward Carson Gicewicz picked up assists on the play.
Both teams traded chances in the third period but Jones stayed perfect, finishing the game with 27 saves in his second shutout of the season.
Stars forward Sam Kauppila added an empty net goal in the waning moments of regulation to make it a 2-0 final.
The Stars return to action Saturday night in Des Moines. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
