SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, fell to the Oklahoma City Blue 117-110 tonight at Bruin Arena.
The Stars (15-15) were led by Utah Jazz two-way player Tyler Cavanaugh, who finished with a game-high 26 points to go with five rebounds in 31 minutes in his ninth start of the season with Salt Lake City. Utah Jazz two-way player Naz Mitrou-Long tallied 20 points, his fifth 20-point game of the season, to go with a game-high seven rebounds and a game-high-tying seven assists. Four of the five Salt Lake City starters finished in double figures, as Isaac Haas tied his NBA G League career high with 13 points and Isaiah Cousins recorded 15 points and seven assists.
The Blue (23-9) were led by Oklahoma City Thunder two-way player Deonte Burton, who scored a team-high 24 points and handed out six assists. Scotty Hopson scored 16 points in 31 minutes and Abdul Gaddy finished with a team-high seven helpers, his team-best 25th time leading the Blue in assists this season. Bryce Alford tallied 23 points on 5-for-10 (.500) shooting from three off the bench.
Oklahoma City built a 40-28 lead at the end of the first period of play, recording its highest scoring first quarter of the season. Salt Lake City responded with a 16-0 run to start the second frame, holding the Blue scoreless for more than seven minutes in the period to take a four-point lead (44-40) in the quarter and a two-point advantage (54-52) into halftime. There were seven lead changes in the final 24 minutes of play, as the Stars held on to a two-point edge (107-105) with 2:36 remaining. Oklahoma City closed the game on a 12-3 run in the final minutes to earn the seven-point victory.
Salt Lake City will begin a three-game road trip on Wednesday, Jan. 30, against the Sioux Falls Skyforce (Miami HEAT affiliate). The game, which tips off at 5:30 p.m. (MT), will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
