LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (18-20-0-1) played valiantly in a late 4-3 loss to the Omaha Lancers (28-10-2-1) on Friday night at the Ice Box.
After heavy pressure from the Stars early on, Lancers defenseman Hunter Carrick floated a shot from the right point through traffic at 16:13 to take a 1-0 lead. At 18:47, Stars forward Dominick Mersch deflected a shot coming from defenseman Carter Long to beat the netminder and tie the game, 1-1.
The Stars earned their first lead of the night, 2-1, at 4:26 with a shot from the left circle by forward Casey Dornbach after a turnover. The Lancers answered with two goals from forwards Filip Suchy and Brendan Furry at 9:35 and 10:46, respectively, to take back the advantage at 3-2. Stars forward Paul Cotter tied the game again with a perfectly placed shot from the left circle, sending the game into the third period level at 3-3.
After a clean and scoreless majority of the third period, a late power play for the Lancers gives Suchy the chance to take the 4-3 lead at 19:39 as well as the win.
