
Stars Drop Overtime Battle to Kings

STOCKTON, Calif., - The Salt Lake City Stars (0-2), the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, fought back from a double-digit deficit to force overtime in their first road game of the regular season before falling to the Stockton Kings (2-0) 104-100.
The Stars were led by Utah Jazz assignment player Taylor Hendricks, who notched 23 points in his return to the Stars lineup, to go with nine rebounds. Two-way guard Josh Christopher added 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Meanwhile, fellow two-way player Johnny Juzang, added 12 points and six rebounds on the night. Guard Isaiah Miller came off the bench to chip in 17 points, eight rebounds, and three steals in 28 minutes.
The Stars found themselves down by 16 as the Kings took a 23-7 lead at the 6:24 mark of the first quarter. However, the team managed to cut the deficit in half, trailing 31-23 as they headed into the second quarter. Salt Lake City continued to chip away at Stockton's advantage, trimming the deficit to 46-42 thanks to a stingy defensive effort. The Stars held the Kings to 15 points on just .30 percent shooting in the frame. Hendricks and guard Romeo Langford combined for 10 of the Stars 19 points in the quarter.
Salt Lake City remained in command out of the locker room, shooting .61 percent from the floor and .57 percent from three. The Stars grabbed the lead once again at 73-70, with just 30 seconds left on the clock. In the fourth Salt Lake City relied on eight points from Miller and 11 from Christopher to force Stockton into overtime 96-96.
The Stars were outscored by Stockton 8-4 in the extra frame, falling 104-100 on the road.
Sacramento Kings assignment player Colby Jones, led the night with 32 points to go along with seven rebounds, eight assists, and five steals. Stockton guard Jaylen Nowell added 21 points, two assists, and three steals in 30 minutes off the bench.
Salt Lake City kicks off the New Year on Tuesday, January 2nd against the Cleveland Charge at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The contest tips off at 5:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast LIVE on ESPN+.
