SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars (5-8) faltered in the fourth quarter for a 124-112 loss in their second matchup against the Ontario Clippers (9-5) on the road Wednesday night.
The teams traded baskets in a game that featured 11 ties and 26 lead changes. The game began as a closely matched contest as the Stars held the biggest lead of the quarter at four points. In the second frame, Salt Lake City built an 11 point lead after a nine-point run with just two-minutes remaining before closing out the first half 68-57. Johnny Juzang added six-points in the third, helping the Stars hold the lead 94-91 as they entered the final frame. However, Ontario stayed within striking distance as they managed to tie the game 105-105 with seven-minutes until the final buzzer. Regaining their momentum, the Clippers came back to steal the Stars victory with a 124-112 win.
Frank Jackson led Salt Lake City once again notching 24 points and six rebounds, while center Tyler Cook led the team with 14 rebounds, completing a double-double with 15 points on the night. Rawle Alkins added 18 pointson 8-of-12 from the field, along with five rebounds, and four assists. Christian Vital came off the bench to add 16 points on 4-of-9 (.444) from behind the arc, as well as six assists in 28 minutes of action.
Ontario's guard Brandon Boston Jr. led all scorers with 30 points. Four other players contributed double-digits points: Xavier Moon with 19 points and eight assists, and off the bench Nate Darling (24), Jason Preston (19), and Warith Alatishe (15).
The Stars continue their West Coast road trip tomorrow evening when they face the G League Ignite. The game can be streamed on ESPN+ at 8 p.m. MT.
