Stapleton Named as Associate Coach

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League announced in a press conference this afternoon that they have hired Mike Stapleton as the team's new Associate Coach.

Stapleton comes to the Otters following an extensive professional career, which ended in 2003-2004. The 40 year-old Sarnia, Ontario native spent 15 of his 18-year pro career in the National Hockey League where he played for Chicago, Pittsburgh, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Phoenix, Atlanta, the New York Islanders and Vancouver. In 697 career NHL games Stapleton scored 71 goals and 11 assists for 182 points.

"I'm excited to be here and looking forward to the chance to have a positive impact on this organization," Stapleton said. "It's going to be great to work with Sherry (Bassin), Peter (Sidorkiewicz), the players and the entire organization. Hopefully, I can share my experiences with our players and pass along some of the things that I feel are necessary for success, both on and off the ice."

Last season Stapleton was with the Traverse City North Stars in the North American Hockey League where he posted a 17-34-7 in his first season as Head Coach.

"Mike played for me as a member of the Canadian World Juniors in 1996, he was an All-Star in our League (with Cornwall from 1983-1986) and played 700 games in the NHL," Otters Managing Partner and General Manager Sherry Bassin said. "Combine his playing experience with his values, work ethic and commitment and he is a very special addition to our organization. The Mike Stapleton I've always known has been and is a winner. You can be sure he will help our organization become a winner."

2006-2007 Erie Otters Season Tickets are now on sale. Reserve your seats now and save big over the Box Office price. Platinum level tickets are $376.74, Gold level tickets are $328.61 and a Child (12 and under) Season Ticket in any seating level is $230.48. All prices do not include the City of Erie Entertainment Tax or fees. There are additional savings for Erie Youth Hockey Association and Erie Lady Lions members.

Single game tickets for the 2006-2007 OHL Season will go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, August 30th at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Civic Center Box Office. Platinum tickets are $13.50, Gold Tickets are $11.50 and Children (12 and under) are $9.50 in any seating area. All single game ticket prices include the City of Erie Entertainment Tax.
