Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League announced in a press conference this afternoon that they have hired Mark Seidel (Sy-dell) as their new Assistant General Manager.
Seidel is the Chief Scout for International Scouting Services (ISS), an international enterprise in the business of scouting, evaluating, analyzing and ranking 16, 17 & 18 year old hockey players for major junior and National Hockey League teams. He will continue in his role with ISS while with the Otters.
Prior to joining the Otters Seidel also served as the Chief Scout and Northern Ontario Scout for the Owen Sound Attack.
"I am tremendously excited about joining the Erie Otters, which has a past history of excellence and a very bright future," Seidel said. "The opportunity to work with Sherry Bassin and the rest of his staff is something that I have worked long and hard to achieve.
"I think this franchise is definitely headed in the right direction. I'm very excited about the new coaching staff and I am confident that the players that are in this organization and the ones that we will be bringing in will lead us to a championship."
"It's not only exciting but again we feel fortunate to add Mark to our management staff," said Otters Managing Partner and General Manager Sherry Bassin. "Mark is a committed, hard working, knowledgeable individual who will add significant value to the Erie Otters. Add a quality person with ability and work ethic to an organization and the conclusion is winner."
Seidel, a graduate of Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, began scouting in 1994. After three seasons, he accepted the position of Director of Player Personnel for the Espanola Screaming Eagles (Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League) before being promoted as the team's General Manager in 1997. Following a three-year run with the Screaming Eagles, Seidel moved to the Sudbury Northern Wolves (NOJHL) where he served as that team's General Manager from 2002-2004.
