GREENSBORO - A three-run fifth inning by Kannapolis turned out to be the difference in Saturday's game as the Intimidators ended Greensboro's five-game win streak in front of 7,597 at NewBridge Bank Park.

The quickest nine-inning game of the season for the Hoppers, two hours and four minutes, saw starter Brett Durand pitched a team-high, eight innings for manager Edwin Rodriguez and gave up all five Kannapolis (27-35) runs as Greensboro (33-29) fell 5-2 to extend its current home losing streak to five games.

Kannapolis jumped out to an early lead with one run in the first inning, but right-fielder Mike Stanton leveled the ledger with his league-leading 12th home run of the season.

Stanton's home run also extended the Hoppers' home run streak to 13 games.

Kannapolis replied with another run in the third inning and never relinquished the lead again thanks to a three-run fifth inning.

Bryan Petersen extended a streak of his own with an eighth-inning single. After going 0-for-3 in his first three plate appearances, Petersen singled to right field to extend his hit streak 15 games; his streak is currently the longest active streak in the South Atlantic League.

With the loss, Durand fell to 6-3 and the Hoppers dropped to 33-29; Greensboro remains in fourth place in the Northern Division, just three and a half games back though as league-leading Lake County fell to Hagerstown, 5-4.

The Hoppers and Intimidators complete their two-game series Sunday with a 5:00 p.m. game. LHP Jay Voss (1-3, 4.26) is scheduled to start for Greensboro while Kannapolis is slated to counter with RHP Juan Moreno (1-3, 6.86).
