Augusta Shuts Out Hickory On One-Hitter

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (36-26) held the Hickory Crawdads (28-35) to just one hit in a 7-0 win on Saturday night. Starter Craig Clark recorded the win working 6.2 shutout innings while Brock Bond drove in two runs to lead the offense.

Augusta scored all the runs it needed in the first inning plating three runs for a 3-0 lead. Nick Noonan scored the first run when he came in on a passed ball from catcher Ronald Pena. Thomas Neal had an RBI sac-fly and Andrew Davis followed with a two-out RBI single.

Clark (5-0) allowed just one hit, a walk and struck out four in the win while Hickory did not see a single runner reach second base and no runners reach base after the fourth inning.

Clark issued a one out walk in the fourth then got a double play to end the inning and then combined with Waldis Joaquin to retire the next 15 in a row to end the game.

Joaquin came in relief in the seventh and retired seven batters in a row to preserve the shutout.

Augusta added a single run in the second inning on a two-out RBI single from Bond for a 4-0 lead.

Garrett Baker and Francisco Peguero each had a solo home run to push the lead to 6-0 and Bond capped off the scoring with an RBI double in the sixth inning.

The GreenJackets and Crawdads finish up their series Sunday evening with Augusta sending right-hander Daryl Maday (4-4, 2.05) to the mound looking for the sweep. The Crawdads counter with right-hander Brad Lincoln (3-1, 2.01). First pitch is at 5:35 p.m.
