Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Ahead of a massive Western Conference clash on Wednesday ripe with playoff implications, Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Tuesday that on behalf of the club's season ticket members, the club has donated 1,000 tickets to Kids up Front, Covenant House Vancouver, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, Hope & Health, Surrey School District, and Vancouver School District.
"Our supporters have stood by us throughout the last two years and especially at every match at BC Place, pushing us on to win six of our seven home matches," said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC chief executive officer. "What better way to continue to stand together than to give back to the community, welcome new fans to join us, and push the team towards the playoffs."
Whitecaps FC face Minnesota United FC on Wednesday in a match between two teams battling closely to make the postseason. The 'Caps currently occupy the seventh and final playoff spot in the Western Conference with 44 points, one behind sixth place Minnesota, who they can jump ahead of with a victory on Wednesday.
The 'Caps also sit only two points behind fifth place LA Galaxy, and fourth place Portland Timbers. The Galaxy play at Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday, while the Timbers host San Jose Earthquakes. Fourth place in the conference secures a home playoff game.
Meanwhile, just one point behind Vancouver is Real Salt Lake, who play a road match at FC Dallas on Wednesday, and two points back are Los Angeles FC who host Seattle Sounders FC on Tuesday night.
Since mid-July, the 'Caps have posted a record of 9W-2L-8D for a total of 35 points, which is second only to Supporters' Shield winning New England Revolution over the past 19 matches.
