Stamps sign Canadian linebacker

(Calgary) – Today, Calgary Stampeders' Senior VP of Football Operations/Head Coach, Tom Higgins, announced the free agent signing of Linebacker Sebastien Roy.

As per Club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Entering his first season the Stampeders ... originally signed as a free agent on June 1, 2005 ... started the 2004 season with the Montreal Alouettes ... played the 2003 season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers ... originally drafted by Winnipeg in the 4th round (32nd overall) in the 2003 Canadian College Draft.

2004

Signed with the Montreal Alouettes and played in the first game of the regular season vs the Eskimos.

2003

Roy played in 17 regular-season games and the 2003 West Division Semi-final. He recorded six special team tackles on the season.

College

Roy played four years of college football at Mount Allison. He was team captain all four years with the Mounties, and beat out two seniors for a starting job in his freshman season ... Roy was a three time Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Second Team All-Canadian with the Mounties (1999, 2000 & 2002) ... he was also a three time Atlantic University Sport (AUS) First Team All-Star (1999, 2000 & 2002) ... in 1999 he was named AUS Rookie of the Year and 1999 Peter Gorman Trophy winner – given to the top first-year player in Canadian College football.

Noteworthy

Roy played three years of CEGEP football for the Vieux-Montreal Spartans (1996, 1997 & 1998) ... he helped lead the Spartans to three straight CEGEP-AAA Bol d'Or Championship titles (1996, 1997 &1998) ... playing middle linebacker Roy was a CEGEP All-Star two times (1997 & 1998) and was the league's Most Valuable Defensive Player in 1998.
