Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that import defensive lineman Marvin Booker and import offensive lineman Leonardo Bates have signed with the team. As per club policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
Booker played 10 games for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights as a senior in 2012, recording 23 tackles and one sack for the nation's fourth-ranked defense. Previous to his senior year, Booker battled injuries and was limited to a total of seven games from 2009 to 2011. Prior to the 2011 season, Booker moved from linebacker to defensive end.
Bates played four seasons for the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. As a senior in 2012, he started 13 games at left tackle and earned second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honours. He was part of an offensive unit that averaged 35 points and 193.5 rushing yards per game. The Ragins Cajuns offensive line allowed only 12 sacks all season. In 2011, he started 13 games at left tackle and was named a second-team Sun Belt all-star.
Both players will be reporting for the start of the Stampeders' rookie camp at McMahon Stadium on May 30.
