Idaho Stampede News Release

Two Stampede records fall
Saturday was a historical night for two Stampede members. Eric Chenowith broke the Stampede single season rebounding record in the second quarter. He went on to grab 15 in the game. The CBA's leading rebounder broke Sam Clancy's record of 520 and currently sits at 530 with six games remaining.

Saturday's win also gave head coach Joe Wolf his 45th career coaching victory with the Stampede. He now has more coaching wins with the Stampede than any other coach, passing Rory White on the all-time list.

The playoffs are coming
March 12 marks the end of the CBA regular season. This year's playoffs are a bit different than in the past as three teams from each division will make the playoffs. The Stampede are 16 quarter points away from clinching a spot in the west.

At this point for the Stampede, it's basically about eliminating Dakota. Though the Stampede are mathematically 16 points away, that is based on Dakota winning the remaining 42 quarter points that are still available to them for their remaining 6 games. The Stamps can make things easier on themselves since they play two in Dakota this Tuesday and Wednesday (plus two more at home next week). Any quarter point that the Stampede win is a quarter point that Dakota loses which will ultimately reduce the number of points to clinch. Confused? Don't worry. Give me a call and I'll be happy to explain it, 388-4667.

Here is the playoff format for this year's post season from the league office:
This season's CBA Playoffs will include the top three teams from both the
Eastern and Western Conferences (six total teams). The three highest
quarter-point averages in their respective conferences will qualify for the
playoffs. The six teams will play three contests each in the first round in
a round-robin format versus the three playoff qualifiers from the opposite
conference. The three teams from each conference will be seeded one through
three based upon their quarter-point averages during the regular season.
The two top teams in each conference, along with the second-place team with
the better quarter-point finish, will play two home games and one road game.
The two third-place teams in each conference and the second-place team with
the lower quarter-point finish will play two road games and one home game.

For the first time since the CBA began using quarter points to determine
regular-season standings in the 1981-82 season, the league will be using
quarter points to decide which teams advance from the first round of the
playoffs. The two teams that accumulate the most total quarter points in
their respective three first-round games will advance to play in the CBA
Finals. Potential ties will be broken first by head-to-head playoff play.
If two or more teams are tied, or if two teams that did not play each other
in the playoffs are tied, then the team that is the higher seed will
advance.

The finals will be a two-out-of-three game series using a (1-2) home-court
format, with the lower seed hosting game one and the higher seed hosting
games two and three (if necessary). Quarter points will not be used in the CBA Finals.

Ferguson joins the Stampede
Desmond Ferguson joined the Stampede last Friday and played in the weekend homestand. The Michigan native scored 26 points in 60 minutes of play.

Six left; next three on road
The Stampede are down to their final six games with a three game road and home split. Four games are against the Wizards, which have playoff implications, and the other two are against Sioux Falls, who have just taken the lead in the Western Conference.

This week the Stampede travel to Bismarck for a Tuesday Wednesday night pair against the Wizards and will then head to Sioux Falls for one against the Skyforce on Friday. The Stampede finish the regular season with three at home.

Weekend review
The Stampede split last weekend's games with a loss on Friday against Sioux Falls and a win against the Steelheads. The 6.5 quarter points helped move the Stampede closer to clinching a play-off spot.

Fans at Qwest Arena were treated on both night's to free double cheeseburgers from McDonald's when the McDonald's shot was made on both attempts. Fans could take their ticket stubs to area McDonald's and exchange for a free double cheeseburger.
