Rockford's Ronnie Fields Tabbed CBA Player of the Week

February 27, 2006 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release

Boise, ID (February 27, 2006) - The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Rockford Lightning guard Ronnie Fields has been named the CBA Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 20 through Feb. 26. Fields nearly scored 30-plus points in three straight games, helping Rockford go 2-1 last week.

Fields averaged 33.7 points, 5.7 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals in three games. Included in that was a season-best 42-point effort on Feb. 26 vs. Albany where Fields converted on 17 field goals, which is a league-high this season. He began the week with 30 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals in a 123-120 victory over Eastern Conference rival Gary on Feb. 21. Fields sent the game into overtime with the game-tying basket in regulation while burying the game-winning bucket in overtime. Three nights later he scored 29 points to go with eight assists, six rebounds and three steals in a 105-101 win at Michigan.

After posting just one game of 30 points in his first 33 games this season, Fields has posted 30-or-more points in five of his last nine games.

The eight-year CBA veteran is third in the league in scoring (22.1 ppg.) and second in steals (2.1 pg.) this season. He's played in 42 of Rockford's 43 games with a 45.1 field goal pct., 75.3 free-throw pct., and a 41.4 3-point field goal pct. For his career, Fields ranks among the all-time best in the CBA in steals (8th - 575), points (16th - 4,772), games played (31st - 273), and minutes played (41st - 7,670).

Fields was drafted in the 1996 CBA Draft by La Crosse out of Farragut Academy High School in Illinois, where he played with Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Garnett. He was named to the CBA All-Rookie Second Team and was the CBA Slam Dunk Champion later that season. He was also named CBA All-League First Team in 2004 and 2005 while being named to the CBA All-Star Game in 2003 and 2006.

Rockford is second in the Eastern Conference with a 27-16 record, 3.99 quarter-point average and 171.5 total quarter points. The Lightning next play Tuesday, Feb. 28, when they host the Michigan Mayhem at 7:05 p.m. (CST).
