BOISE, Idaho (November 18, 2015) - The Idaho Stampede dropped their home opener, 94-87, to the Iowa Energy on Wednesday at the Centurylink Arena.
Four Stampede players finished in double figures, led by Brandon Fields and Jeff Ayres with 16 points each. Ayres also grabbed 10 rebounds, registering his second double-double of the season.
Jack Cooley, who was re-acquired by the Stampede on Nov. 16, grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds, including 10 defensive boards.
Idaho briefly built a seven-point lead early in the game before the Energy came back to tie the game late in the first quarter. The Energy took advantage of the Stampede's early foul trouble, hitting eight of 13 free throws in the first quarter.
The game continued to be a back and forth battle through most of the game, which featured 21 lead changes and 11 ties. The Energy built a 10-point lead entering the fourth quarter. Ayres and Fields scored six of their 16 points in the fourth quarter to help the Stampede pull within one with a minute remaining in the game. Iowa held Idaho off in the final seconds of the game despite the Stampede forcing seven turnovers in the quarter.
Iowa was led by Perry Jones III, who finished the game with 35 points and 14 rebounds. Energy guard Cartier Martin added 21 points and seven rebounds.
The Stampede will take on the Bakersfield Jam this Saturday, Nov. 21. For more information, visit idahostampede.com.
