SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Stampede announced Wednesday they have acquired forward Austen Swankler, a 2019 Phase I 5th round pick and a 2019 Phase II 4th round pick from the Waterloo Black Hawks in exchange for forward Matt Cameron, a 2019 Phase I 3rd round pick and a 2020 Phase II second round selection. In addition, the teams swapped affiliate list players with the Stampede acquiring defenseman DJ Hart in exchange for forward Dane Montgomery.
Swankler recorded nine points (1g, 8a) in 15 games this season with the Waterloo Black Hawks. Waterloo selected the North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania native during the 2017 USHL Phase I Draft. He was recently named a B-rated skater by NHL Central Scouting, meaning he could potentially be a second or third round draft choice during the 2019 NHL Draft.
Prior to joining the Black Hawks, Swankler played midget hockey with the Oakland Jr. Grizzles U16 team where he posted an impressive 101 points (38g, 63a) in 63 games. The 6-foot, 181-pound centerman has already committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of Michigan.
Swankler is expected to join the team this week and could make his Stampede debut this Saturday when the Herd host Dubuque at 7:05 PM inside the PREMIER Center. He will wear #27 for the Herd.
Saturday is also the Stampede's annual Teddy Bear Toss night. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to the game and toss it onto the ice after the Stampede's first goal. All stuffed animals collected with be donated to local children's hospitals and non-profit groups for the holidays. Tickets are available through the KELOLAND Box Office or any Ticketmaster outlet.
