GREEN BAY, WI. - The Flying Aces defeat the Green Bay Gamblers, 7-2, at Resch Centre on Wednesday night.
Right-wing Jeremy Davidson put the Flying Aces on board just 40 seconds into the first period. Forward Stephen Halliday skated into the zone and left the puck at the top of the right face-off circle for forward Trevor Janicke. Janicke back-handed the puck to Davidson at the hashmarks and the forward wristed a shot over the left shoulder of Green Bay goaltender Evan Fear.
Defenseman Chris Giroday answered right back for Green Bay making the score even. Skating on the power play, forward Jesse Tucker won a face-off and passed the puck to Giroday who one-timed it into the net with 15:30 remaining in the period.
With a man advantage, the Aces earned their second lead of the night. Forward Lynden Breen sauced the puck to Halliday on the red line. Halliday pushed the puck to Janicke who chipped it in at 10:03.
Knotting the score at 2-2, defenseman Ethan Frisch picked up the puck at the blue-line and fed across to forward Nicholas Zabaneh who took an initial shot. Aces netminder Ryan Snowden made the save allowing Tucker to tap in the rebound.
For the Aces third goal of the night, defenseman Benito Posa skated the puck behind the net and slid it over to forward Brad Marek. Marek wristed the puck to the top corner of the net tallying his fifth goal of the season.
Forward Cal Kiefiuk netted his fifth goal of the season with one second remaining in the middle period leaving the Gamblers trailing by two. Defenseman Michael Ferrandino slid the puck down the boards to Kiefiuk who turned and roofed the puck into the net.
Putting the Aces up by 3, just a minute and 15 seconds into the final period, Janicke passed to Halliday behind the net who then pushed the puck into the crease. Davidson one-timed the puck past Fear for his second goal of the night.
Just two minutes and 21 seconds later, forward Chad Hillebrand picked up a turn over and faked out Fear on the left side of the goal, Hillebrand slid the puck to forward Joseph Dunlap who tallied his fourth goal of the season on an open net, leaving the score 6-2.
For the final goal of the night, right-wing Caden Villegas passed the puck to Kiefiuk who fed a pass to forward Max Ellis. Ellis took a shot on one knee from the left face-off circle leaving the final score 7-2.
Snowden stopped 33 of the 35 shots taken against him. Fear faced 24 shots, making saves on 17 of them.
The Flying Aces return home to face projected 2019 NHL draft first overall pick, Jack Hughes, and the Team USA Under-18 Team on Friday, November 23rd at Grossinger Motors Arena, puck drop is at 7:07p.m.
