Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Despite out-shooting their opponent 46-25, the Norfolk Admirals (36-32-3-3) ran into a brick wall named Alex Stalock as they were shut out by the Worcester Sharks (45-22-2-3) 2-0 on Saturday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.
The Admirals will play their final three road games of the 2009-10 regular season next weekend as they visit Albany on Friday, Binghamton on Saturday and Hershey on Sunday. They will return to Scope the following week for their final three regular season games.
Stalock, who leads the American Hockey League and has also set a new AHL rookie record with 37 wins, posted the third-most saves ever in a shutout against the AHL Admirals. He stopped 15 shots in the first period, 17 in the second period and 14 in the third period.
The Sharks opened scoring late in the opening period. Derek Joslin sent a shot from the high slot that was deflected on its way to the net and stopped by Admirals netminder Dustin Tokarski. The rebound wound up in the crease, where Worcester tough guy Frazer McLaren pounced on it and put it between Tokarski's legs for a 1-0 lead at 18:37.
Worcester doubled its lead 7:07 into the second stanza. Tony Lucia sent a looping shot from the right point toward the left corner. The puck deflected off an Admirals defenseman in the slot and went past a stunned Tokarski, who shouldered the loss in the contest stopping 23 of 25 shots.
