Albany River Rats News Release
SYRACUSE, NY - Rookie Zac Dalpe scored his first career hat trick in just his fourth professional game to lead the Albany River Rats to a 5-2 victory over the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday night at the Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter.
Carolina's second round pick (45th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft scored twice in the first period and once in the third, while linemate Chris Terry chipped in three assists and Jiri Tlusty added a pair of helpers in Albany's second straight win.
The River Rats led 3-1 after two periods, but Tomas Kana brought the Crunch to within a goal at 3:41 of the third on a short-side strike from close-range. Dalpe completed his hat trick just 34 seconds later on a perfectly executed tic-tac-to play from Terry and Tlusty, and Casey Borer scored his first goal of the season less than a minute and a half later to give the River Rats a commanding three-goal lead.
Dalpe's first goal of the night gave the River Rats a 1-0 lead at 7:19 of the opening period on a deflection from Jonathan Paiement. Crunch forward Tim Sestito knotted the game with a power play rebound at 11:15 of the first, but Dalpe reclaimed Albany's lead for good at 16:19, collecting a feed in the low slot from Jerome Samson and snapping it in off of the high-iron. Nick Dodge scored the second period's only goal at 9:20 on a 2-on-1 with Steven Goertzen to give Albany a two-goal cushion.
River Rats goaltender Justin Peters stopped 27-of-29 shots faced to earn the win in his return from a month-long stint in Carolina, as Albany improved to 40-27-3-5 this season. Syracuse goalie Kevin Lalande allowed five goals on 43 shots and took the loss, as the Crunch fel to 31-37-3-3 this year. Albany out-shot Syracuse 43-29 in the game and unloaded a season-high 23 shots in the first period. The River Rats went 0-for-4 on the power play and the Crunch were 1-for-5 on the man-advantage.
Albany concludes its three-game road trip on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. against the Springfield Falcons. River Rats 2010 Calder Cup playoff packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
