St. Lucie Mets Continue Domination of Hammerheads

The St. Lucie Mets completed the three-game sweep of the Jupiter Hammerheads Thursday night at Digital Domain Park. The Mets outscored the Hammerheads 32-9 after a 14-6 victory in the final matchup between the two teams. St. Lucie improves to 25-22 on the half and 63-54 overall.

Wilmer Flores gave the Mets an early 1-0 lead driving in Pedro Zapata in the first inning. The Hammerheads answered scoring twice in the top of the second. A Cesar Puello two-run triple put the Mets up 4-2 through two innings of play. Jupiter bounced right back taking a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning but the Mets plated five runs in the bottom of the frame to take 9-5 advantage. With the score 9-6 St. Lucie would put the game well out of reach in the eighth inning. Jefry Marte, Wilmer Flores and Stefan Welch hit back-to-back-to-back home runs blowing the game wide open as the Mets scored five times in the inning to cap off the scoring at 14-6.

Kyle Allen got the win improving to 5-8. Allen tossed five innings of relief allowing only one run on four hits. Rylan Sandoval led the Mets offensively. Sandoval had three hits, including his seventh home run while driving in four runs. Jefry Marte and Wilmer Flores each homered, scored twice and had two RBI, Pedro Zapata had four hits and runs scored, and Stefan Welch homered for the 15th time this season in the 14-6 win.

The Mets kick off a three-game series with the Charlotte Stone Crabs Friday night at Digital Domain Park. Darin Gorski gets the start for the Mets. Gorski is 10-1 with a 2.39 ERA in 23 appearances, 17 starts. He has struck out 119 while walking 27 and is holding opposing batters to a .224 batting average.
