JUPITER, Fla. -- The Palm Beach Cardinals mounted a three-run seventh inning rally to take a 3-1 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs in Thursday's series finale.

With that win, the Cardinals claimed the season series as well. Palm Beach bested Charlotte 9-8 in the 17 meetings between the two clubs this season.

Strong starting pitching was on display in the early going. A pair of 22-year-old right-handers matched up against one another. Jake Thompson supplied a strong start for Charlotte, while Deryk Hooker took the mound for Palm Beach.

Thompson was dominant in his six inning stint. He carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and allowed just three base runners on the night. The righty walked one and struck out four batters, needing just 68 pitches to do so.

Hooker, who made his Palm Beach season debut on Thursday, worked four scoreless innings before giving way to the Cardinals bullpen. He allowed just three hits and struck out four men.

Charlotte struck for the first run of the game in the top of the fifth against reliever Justin Smith. Jake Jefferies lined a one-out double down the left field line and was chased home on Reid Fronk's double to make it 1-0.

The Cardinals put all three of their runs on the board in the seventh against Stone Crabs reliever Adam Liberatore (5-4). Rainel Rosario belted a ground-rule double that tied things up 1-1, and was brought in to score on Niko Vasquez's single. Starlin Rodriguez capped the three-run frame with a run-scoring single of his own to put the Cardinals ahead by a 3-1 margin.

Smith (3-7) went three innings in relief, surrendering one run on two hits to pick up the win. Palm Beach co-closer Jordan Swagerty tossed a scoreless ninth inning to register his fifth save of the season.

The Stone Crabs travel to Port St. Lucie to open up a series with the St. Lucie Mets on Friday. Right-hander Merrill Kelly (8-3) is slated to take on left-hander Darin Gorski (10-1) of the Mets. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
