St. George RoadRunners News Release

The beginning four letters of the St. George professional baseball team's surname has been a sore subject all season. Thinking about playing on the road, away from the comfy confines of Bruce Hurst Field, has brought discomforting thoughts to Darrell Evans' squad. Heading into Wednesday's contest with the Yuma Scorpions, the RoadRunners had not put a road win in the books since June 13.

Behind a quality start from Reed Dickert and a three-run sixth inning, St. George broke the string on road infamy and defeated Yuma 5-3 at Desert Sun Stadium.

St. George improved to 14-27 on the season. Yuma dropped to 25-17 and, at press-time, recessed into a tie for the GBL South lead with Maui.

The Scorps took a 2-0 lead in the fourth with a Francisco Murillo home run. After that blip, Dickert rebounded in not allowing any further runs in six quality innings for the win (3-4).

A trio of two-out singles in the RoadRunner fifth including an RBI hit by Nick Fitzgerald put St. George just a run down.

In the next inning, GBL All-Star Jermy Acey brought home Vic Buttler to tie the game and Carlos Sosa bombed a homer (5) for a 4-2 lead.

Murillo scored on a hit and error in the eighth closing the Scorpions' gap to one, 4-3.

An insurance run crossed for St. George in the ninth when Henry Calderon was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The run crossed home without the benefit of a base hit.

Jose Obispo closed out the game for his first save inducing Jonel Pacheco into a game-ending double play. Yuma starter Bill Pulsipher dropped to 3-4 with the loss.

St. George rapped out 11 hits with leadoff man Buttler notching three. Scott Clement and Casey Raisbeck each added two hits. Johny Celis had three of Yuma's nine safeties.

The series finale is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:35pm Mountain. LHP Jon Dutton is slated to start for the RoadRunners.

St. George returns home to begin a series with defending league champion Calgary on Friday. The game begins at 7:05pm at Bruce Hurst Field and will feature another Friday Night Fireworks show presented by Findlay Automotive Group and Eureka Hotel/Resort.

Friday also marks the return on John Potter behind the mic. The "Voice" brings live coverage beginning on the RoadRunners Radio Network - ESPN SportsRadio 1210 AM, 102/107 Cool FM The Fox and Network1Sports.com.
