Tucson Toros News Release

Tucson, AZ - Tucson Toros 1B Jim Rushford hit a walkoff RBI single in bottom of the 10th inning to lift Tucson past the Chico Outlaws 4-3 Wednesday night.

The Toros and the Outlaws were locked in a back and forth battle throughout the night. Tucson gained a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning off of 3B Wally Backman Jr.'s sacrifice fly.

However, the Outlaws came right back and scored 2 runs in the top half of the 3rd to make the score 2-1 Outlaws.

Tucson tied the game in the 4th and took the lead back in the 6th when Rushford's towering RBI double to left center gave the Toros the go ahead run.

Chico threatened to score in the 7th when they had runners on second and third with only 1 out, but Toros RHP John Bannister worked himself out of the jam as he snared a hard hit comebacker for a 1-3 groundout.

He then got the next batter he faced to fly out to centerfield to end the inning and maintain the lead.

Chico's offensive threats came to fruition in the 9th when a bases loaded walk tied the game 3-3.

The game was still tied going into the bottom half of the 10th inning when two consecutive errors by Chico Pitcher Justin Segal allowed LF Lino Garcia to advanced third with no one out.

After an intentional walk to RF Francisco Plasencia, Rushford hit the game-winning single on a chopper over the second baseman's glove for a 4-3 victory.

Earlier in the game, Plasencia increased his hitting streak to 17 when he singled in the 6th.

He's now only 1 game back from tying the longest Toros hitting streak this season held by 1B Cristobal Santana.

Be there tomorrow for Thirsty Thursday as the Toros look to win the series against the Chico Outlaws as Toros Ace Pitcher Vince Davis takes the mound!
