Squirrels Stall, Fall to Senators in 11 Innings

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Flying Squirrels opened an early lead but lost to the Senators, 5-4, in 11 innings on Wednesday night at FNB Field.

The Flying Squirrels (4-7) were dealt a walk-off loss against the Senators (5-5) for the second straight night.

In the bottom of the 11th, an error while attempting to advance the placed runner to third on a bunt put two runners on base against Eric Silva (Loss, 1-1) and an intentional walk loaded the bases with one out. Cody Wilson, in his first at-bat of the game, hit a game-winning single to plate the winning run.

The Flying Squirrels opened a 4-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Jimmy Glowenke bunted for a single, scoring Vaun Brown to take a 1-0 lead.

Later in the inning, Andy Thomas drove a two-out, three-run double to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Senators picked up their first hit and first run in the fifth. Jordan Barley hit a two-out double and later came in to score from second on a wild pitch. Stone Garrett closed the score to 4-2 with an RBI single in the sixth.

In the bottom of the seventh, Andrew Pinckney hit an RBI single and Dylan Crews brought in a run with a ground to tie the score, 4-4.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Senators loaded the bases with two outs, but Evan Gates struck out Brady House to escape the jam and force extras.

After Richmond was held scoreless in the top of the tenth, Silva stranded runners on second and third in the bottom of the inning with three strikeouts.

Nash Walters (Win, 1-0) entered in the top of the 11th and worked three groundouts to strand Wilson at third.

Richmond starter Carson Ragsdale threw five innings, his longest outing since 2021, and allowed one run with five strikeouts. He did not allow a hit until the fifth inning.

The Flying Squirrels and Senators continue the series on Thursday night at FNB Field. Right-hander Ryan Murphy (0-1, 2.57) will start for Richmond countered by Harrisburg left Andrew Alvarez (0-1, 2.57). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Following this week's road trip, the Flying Squirrels return to The Diamond for a six-game series against the Bowie Baysox, Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
