RICHMOND, VA - A six-run fourth inning propelled the Richmond Flying Squirrels to a, 7-3, triumph over the Bowie Baysox in front of 9,377 at The Diamond on Saturday night. The win evened the four-game series at a game apiece.

After three innings of silence offensively, the Squirrels exploded in the fourth against Bowie right-hander Ryohei Tanaka. Brandon Crawford singled back up the middle to start the inning and Thomas Neal replicated the feat behind him. Tanaka then walked Clay Timpner to load the bases with nobody out. A batter later, Conor Gillaspie sliced a bases-clearing double into the left-center field alley for a 3-0 Richmond lead. Another batter later, Andy D'Alessio walked to put two aboard with two outs. Ryan Lormand followed the free-pass with a double to the right field corner that scored both Gillaspie and D'Alessio. Darren Ford capped the rally with an RBI single to left field to bring in Lormand for a 6-0 advantage.

Tanaka (3-5) departed to the loss following Ford's single. He was charged with six runs on five hits, walking two and striking out four. All of the charged runs and hits against him were recorded in the fourth inning, the most productive inning in Squirrels' franchise history.

The Baysox finally got on the board against Richmond right-hander David Mixon in the fifth inning. Steve Lerud belted a solo-home run down the right-field line to cut the Richmond lead to 6-1.

It was the only chink in Mixon's (5-2) armor however, as he worked a strong 6 2/3 innings for the victory. He allowed just five hits and the lone run, walking one and striking out eight.

The Squirrels added their final run on the night against reliever Ryan Ouellette in the sixth inning when Crawford brought in Jackson Williams with a sacrifice fly. Bowie's Brandon Waring capped the scoring with a two-run home run off the scoreboard in left-center field in the ninth inning.

Game three of the series is scheduled for Sunday night at 6:35 PM at The Diamond. RHP Tim Bascom (3-3, 3.16) will make the start for Bowie. Richmond has yet to name a starter for Sunday's game.
