Altoona Curve News Release
A four-run fourth inning capped by a Josh Harrison two-run double helped the Altoona Curve past the Reading Phillies, 7-3, on Saturday night at Blair County Ballpark. Starting pitcher Tim Alderson (4-2) earned his fourth win of the year with his third straight quality start for Altoona.
Altoona plated its first run of the night in the first inning when they loaded the bases against starter Yohan Flande (3-4) with no one out. Chase d'Arnaud walked before Gorkys Hernandez and Josh Harrison reached via bunt singles to fill up the bases. Matt Hague grounded into a double play but d'Arnaud scored to make it, 1-0, Curve.
After Reading answered with a run of its own to tie the game in the second, Altoona went back to work against Flande in the fourth. Alex Presley led off the frame with a single and Miles Durham walked to put two on with no one out. After Shelby Ford struck out, Alderson reached on a fielder's choice bunt attempt as the throw went to third and everyone was safe.
With the bases full, Flande walked d'Arnaud to bring in Altoona's go-ahead run to make it, 2-1. Hernandez followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score the third run of the game for Altoona before Harrison's bases-clearing double put the Curve up, 5-1.
Alderson finished six innings for his third straight start and for the third time this season to earn his fourth win of the year. The Scottsdale, Ariz. native allowed one run on four hits in his six innings and struck out five while walking three.
The Curve plated its final two runs of the game on a Hector Gimenez home run to right field in the seventh that scored Hague. It's the team-best seventh home run of the year for Gimenez and the first home run hit at Blair County Ballpark since Hague went deep on April 24 vs. Erie.
Rehabbing Major Leaguer Jack Taschner pitched an inning for Altoona and permitted a run on two hits while Michael Dubee and Daniel Moskos also pitched one inning apiece.
Having won 10 of its last 11 games, Altoona (32-17) will look to secure a series-win on Sunday at 6 p.m. against Reading (20-27). Southpaw Rudy Owens (4-2, 3.08) will take the hill for the Curve in the third game of the series while RHP Drew Naylor (4-4, 3.61) will throw for the R-Phils.
