NOTES FROM THE GAME - Cam Squires scored with 1:43 remaining in overtime to give the Eagles a 5-4 victory over Saint John. The Eagles swept the weekend set in the Port City.

- The Eagles rallied from scores of 2-0 & 4-2, including two goals 40 seconds apart in the final three minutes of the period.

- Cam MacDonald scored twice and added an assist for the Eagles, Squires scored twice while Cole Burbidge scored the tying goal short handed (while adding two assists). Olivier Houde also added two assists.

- Jakob Milota stopped 33 of 37 shots in picking up his first win the QMJHL. Patrick Leaver stopped 38 of 43 in the loss.

- Peter Reynolds, Luka Benoit, Mathis Gauthier, Noah Reinhart scored for the Sea Dogs.

Peter Reynolds opening goal came just 16 seconds into game, lifting it over Jakub Milota's shoulder. Luka Benoit added to the lead when he was left alone at the side of the net and the opening period finished 2-0.

Cam MacDonald scored his first two goals against his old team the Sea Dogs, tying the game before second period's end. Both goals came as a result of buzzing around the crease and cashing in on rebounds in front of the net.

The Sea Dogs rebuilt the two goal cushion in the first half of the third period, thanks to a nice effort rushing the puck from Gauthier and a power play marker from Reinhart.

The Eagle rally began at 17:22 when Squires finished a pass from Burbidge. Following the goal, Squires shoved Pavel Simek and ended up getting a penalty. With the Eagles still down a goal, they were down a man as well in the final three minutes.

But it was the Eagles scoring on the Saint John power play, with Burbidge snapping a short handed tying goal past Leaver. The Eagles were able to kill off the rest of the penalty as the game headed to overtime.

The overtime was all Eagles- outshooting the Sea Dogs 7-0. The tide fully turned the way of Cape Breton when Olivier Houde drew a penalty, Reinhart sent to the box for taking him down. The Eagles had plenty of chances, and in the seconds following the power play Saint John was not able to clear the zone. Squires was able to create space for himself and hammered home the game winning goal.

The Eagles will return home to battle the Halifax Mooseheads on Wednesday night at 7 PM. It's the first instalment of the Battle of Nova Scotia in the 2023-24 season.
