Moncton Wildcats News Release

The Mooseheads played the spoiler role in Moncton's home opener at the Avenir Center topping the Wildcats 3-1 before 5,800 fans on Saturday night.

The goaltending was sensational with Moncton's Jacob Steinman earning First Star honours with 32 saves, while Moosehead Mathis Rousseau was Second Star with 26 stops.

Cats rookie Caleb Desnoyers scored his 2nd of the season to cut the Moose lead to 2-1 in the 3rd period, but Mathieu Cataford found the empty net during a Wildcats powerplay at 19:02 to hand Moncton its first loss after three straight wins. That was the Mooseheads first win after two straight setbacks to the Islanders.

The Wildcats await the Victoriaville Tigres Thursday night at 7 pm at Avenir Centre. Star defenseman Etienne Morin has returned from the Calgary Flames training camp and will be in the lineup Thursday night. The Cats also visit the Sea Dogs Saturday night and host the Armada Sunday at 4pm to complete this week's schedule.
