Spurs Hold off Drive's Rally

Grand Rapids Drive News Release

Austin, TX - The Austin Spurs (20-9) fought off a comeback attempt by the Grand Rapids Drive (15-13) on Friday night to finish with a 124-117 win.

Grand Rapids held a five-point lead after the first quarter that was quickly rendered moot by a 39-point second quarter by the Spurs.

The Drive showed signs of life in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Austin again, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

This is Austin's fourth win in a row. Every starter scored in double figures for the Spurs, who finished with their highest point total since January 11.

Bryce Cotton lead the Spurs with 26 points, Erik Murphy added 21 points and nine rebounds, and Kyle Anderson, on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs, chipped in a versatile 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

Willie Reed and Adonis Thomas both had monster games in the Drive's losing effort. Reed had a huge double-double with 33 points and 19 rebounds, including six offensive rebounds, and Thomas scored 29 points.

The Spurs were largely able to do whatever they wanted offensively, as they shot 49 percent from the field and turned the ball over only five times to the Drive's 18.

These two teams have a rematch tomorrow night, Feb. 7 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern, still in Austin.
