Springfield's Jerry Smith Signs with New Jersey Nets

NEW YORK, March 16, 2012 - The New Jersey nets today signed guard Jerry Smith for the 32nd GATORADE Call-Up of the 2011-12 NBA Development League Season. Smith joins more than 100 NBA players with NBA D-League experience currently on 2011-12 rosters.

Smith (6-2, 190, Louisville) has appeared in 32 games, 29 as a starter, for the Armor this season, averaging 19.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 34.5 minutes. An NBA D-League All-Star, Smith has scored in double figures in 30 games this season, including a season-high 31 points in a 104-97 loss to the Maine Red Claws on Jan. 14.

A four-year contributor and two-year starter at Louisville, Smith was a member of the 2009 Big East Championship team. A year earlier, Smith's Cardinals advanced to the Elite Eight round of the 2008 NCAA tournament.

Smith is expected to join the Nets today and be available tonight when the team faces the Orlando Magic at the Amway Center in Florida.
