Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
Everybody on the bus! We were on the road again, this time to Traverse City, Michigan. I've been looking forward to this trip since I first saw it on the schedule. After 9 - 11 I was an Instructor/Trainer for TSA and worked with the TSA Airport Screeners all over the country, and one of my training sights was in Traverse City, Michigan. I look forward to seeing the changes in the City since I was here in 2003. I think the motel we are staying at is just across the street and a half block from the resort I stayed in the previous stay.
The guys were quiet on the bus, but I'm not sure they slept. We watched four movies on the way up here. Some were not worth watching, but I think that is mostly due to being the oldest ol' guy on the bus. The movie I enjoyed the most, just as in the last trip to St. Louis, I missed the ending because we arrived at the hotel before it ended. That is one of the hazards of traveling by bus though, and I really was ready to quit riding in a vehicle. In the last three days I've traveled 1722 miles, traveling with the team today and traveling for my part time job the other two days. I have seen a good portion of the Midwest though, so I'm not really complaining. I do have certain callouses that have callouses on their callouses, and since I'm tired, I think I will call it a night. Tomorrow night is the first of three games with Traverse City, and I will be on the broadcast. But tonight...it's time to cop some ZZZZZZ's!

If you haven't seen the article about the Springfield Jr. Blues on the NAHL website, be sure to check it out. There's a nice picture of the Leagues's leading scorer, Ethan Nauman, and an article to go with it. Since starting 0 - 6, the good guys have thus far gone 6 - 2 since. After a lot of negative comments heard initially by this writer, things have quieted down considerably. The guys are playing their fannies off, the coaches are doing a great job (although some will never believe it, or admit it) and I keep telling folks this team is special. They have a chemistry about them that I haven't seen for a long time. They are in a tough division and are fighting for a top four finish. Yes there's a long time to go in the season and anything can happen, but my money is on all the aforementioned, especially the coaches. We need folks to get behind this team, and bring people to the Nellie when we play at home. How about it? What have you done for the organization lately? Just curious, because I know many people have contributed so far this season, we just need everyone that attends the home games to invite somebody to come along. If we can get the first-timers to a hockey game at the Nelson Center they just might get hooked on the Jr. Blues! Yours truly is an example of that.
It's off to the rink and game one against TC. Let's Go Blues!
Wow! What a start to the game! Mike Fallon scored at the 3:07 mark of the first with assists from Ethan Nauman (his 21st league point) and Gavin Tufte. The Jr. Blues came out to start this game with a vengeance as Tufte scored a goal at the 5:50 mark with an assist from Smilin' Jack Callahan. The first period scoring wasn't finished yet as Ross Andersen lit the lamp at the 10:15 mark with an assist from T.J. Poganski. That was enough for TC coach Palumbo as he pulled Marble from goal and replaced him with Brennan Knoblock. The Jr. Blues third goal was a Power Play goal by Ross, the Boss, and that ended the scoring in period one. We needed the first intermission to catch our breath and regroup.
The North Stars came out for the second period with more intensity and scored a goal. The puck went back and forth and the Jr. Blues defense was good throughout the period. The score after two periods is 3 - 1, good guys.
It got just a little scary in the third period as the North Stars came back to score to make the score 3 - 2, but the Jr. Blues would not be denied tonight. A goal by the good guys made it 4 - 2 late in the third and then NAHL scoring leader, Ethan Nauman scored an empty netter to ice the game. The final score was 5 - 2. We took the first win of this three game series.
It's more of the same tomorrow night so tune into FASTHockey or wait for the article. Either way I will let you know how it goes in Traverse City. Ah, Michigan in the autumn, it just doesn't get any better than this. Or maybe it does, with two more wins...Let's Go Blues!!
