Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - Dan Sherer fired two goals including the winner in the third period to lift the Amarillo Bulls to a 4-2 victory over the Topeka RoadRunners on Friday night at The Bull Pen In the Amarillo Civic Center. The victory snapped the Bulls two game losing streak and kept them alone in second place in the South Division behind the Wichita Falls Wildcats.

The game was tied 2-2 entering the third period and the Bulls seemed to gain control of the play. Amarillo had an extended 5 on 3 power play but failed the score. The game changed when Sherer stole the puck in the Topeka zone and backhanded a shot behind goaltender Eric Rohrkemper who had returned to the game after being pulled earlier. Rasmus Tirronen relieved Rohrkemper in the second period but was hurt in the third and had to be helped off the ice.

Topeka pulled its goaltender in the final minute of play but failed to get the equalizer. Zack Smoot put the game on ice for Amarillo with an empty net marker in the final 19 seconds.

The Bulls got off to a fast start with some good shots on goaltender Eric Rohrkemper but couldn't connect. The RoadRunners would net the first goal via the power play with just 1:13 remaining in the period as a player was left alone at the side of the net.

In the second period the Bulls pulled even when Dan Sherer scored his third of the season on a wrist shot from Karl Beckman at 6:43. Amarillo took a 2-1 advantage about four minutes later when Kyle Sucher scored off the face-off when his point shot found the back of the net. That goal would chase Topeka goaltender Eric Rohrkemper would was pulled in favor of Rasmus Tirronen.

Topeka tied the game at 2-2 in the final 10 seconds of the period on a strange goal that bounced off the back of the glass and hit goaltender Nikifor Szczerba before going in the net.

Amarillo outshot Topeka 33-20 including 12-6 margins in the first and third periods. The RoadRunners were 2 for 5 on the power play, while the Bulls were 0 for 7.
