Amarillo Bulls Game Day Preview

October 15, 2010 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Amarillo Bulls News Release

THE SERIES & ONE: This is the first meeting of the regular season between the Amarillo Bulls and the Topeka RoadRunners. The two teams met twice during the pre-season. The interesting note about this match-up is that they play one another on two major holidays with Amarillo being the visitor on both occasions. The Bulls will visit Topeka on Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend and again on New Years Eve and New Years Day.

BOTTLE NECK IN THE SOUTH: The Topeka RoadRunners and the Amarillo Bulls are tied with the Texas Tornado for second place in the South Division with 15 points. The trio of teams trail the Wichita Falls Wildcats by one point for first. The Tornado make their first trip to New Mexico to face the Mustangs, while the Wildcats host the Corpus Christi Ice Rays. Topeka, Texas, Amarillo and the St. Louis Bandits all sit third in the overall standings just three points back of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

BULLS BITES: The Amarillo Bulls have been keeping their opponents within striking distance in games this season. Five of their first 11 games have been decided by one goal. The Bulls have been involved in two overtime/shootout games this season which ranks third in the NAHL. The Corpus Christi Ice Rays lead the circuit with an unbeaten mark of 4-0.

GOALTENDERS LEADING THE WAY: Nikifor Szczerba of the Bulls and Rasmus Tirronen of The RoadRunners rank in the top 10 in Goals Against Average. The two have combined for 11 of their team's victories and have surrendered just 30 goals.

TOPEKA NOTES: The Topeka RoadRunners have started out strong on the road with five wins in their first six games. The RoadRunners are also very solid in specialty teams, ranking in the top five in both power play and penalty killing. It is also interesting to note that through the first 10 games, just two of them have been decided by one goal.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE: The Amarillo Bulls are in the midst of a five game home stand that will continue tomorrow with a second meeting against Topeka, and then close out next Friday against Wichita Falls. Due to the World Ranch Rodeo, the Bulls will have a stretch of three weekends in which they will play two games on the road visiting New Mexico for the first time and then Wichita Falls.

The RoadRunners play eight of their next 10 games at the Kansas Expo Center with their only other road trip set for Springfield, Missouri in the next two weeks.
