July 30, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA - The weather in Spokane continues to get hotter but the Indians and their bats have gone into a deep freeze. A night after getting just one hit against Tri-City the Indians managed nine against Everett but a clutch base knock continued to elude Spokane batters as they fell to the AquaSox 3-1 in front of 5,974 fans at Avista Stadium for Fireworks Night presented by Toyota, KREM 2-TV, The Big 99.9 Coyote Country, and 700 ESPN.
The Indians threatened early in the first as Chad Smith and Blaine Prescott lead off the inning with singles but a double play and a groundout ended the scoring opportunity. Spokane mounted another attack in the fourth but Stephen Lohr - who reached on a double - was thrown out at the plate on a base hit from Alex Kowalczyk to end the inning. The team's last gasp came in the eighth as Spokane managed their lone run on a Lohr walk with the bases loaded but that was all the Indians could muster.
Spokane starter Kyle Cody (2-2) did his part to keep the game close as the tall right-hander allowed just one run in five innings while tallying six strikeouts. Lohr finished the night 2-for-3 with one RBI while Prescott reached twice on a pair of singles. The loss dropped Spokane to 2-2 in the second half and 21-21 overall.
