Spokane's Kailer Yamamoto is up for the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as WHL Rookie of the Year after being named the Western Conference nominee earlier this year. Yamamoto blasted himself into Chiefs franchise record books with one of the best 16-year-old seasons in the club's 30 year history.

His 57 points (23 goals, 34 assists) ranked second among all WHL rookies while his plus-12 plus-minus rating led all Chiefs skaters. He ranks second all-time in goals and assists by a Chief during their 16-year-old year, and third in overall points, trailing only Pat Falloon (78; 1988-89) and Jason Podollan (69; 1992-93).

Yamamoto was a fifth round (105th overall) selection in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. His late birthday (September 29) makes him eligible for the 2017 NHL Draft.
